DCC announces completion and handover of Tower O14
15/02/10
O14 is a 22-storey commercial tower strategically located in the heart of Business Bay. Offering spectacular views of Dubai Creek, Burj Khalifa and Godolphin stables, it covers 165,000 square feet of office space as well as 6,500 square feet of retail space. The building also contains 4 basement levels that can accommodate over 400 parking spaces.
Designed by NewYork based architects, Reisur and Umemoto, the O14 tower is built around a new philosophy with the structure and skin flipped to offer a new concept of space. O14 has a perforated concrete façade that acts as the core of the tower. The façade perforations serve as a solar screen, letting in exceptional levels of light, air, and views through to the interior occupants. The one-meter space between the façade and the building's glass surface also acts as a chimney effect causing hot air to rise, creating an efficient passive cooling system, therefore reducing energy consumption by at least 30%.
Kareem Abu-Ghazaleh, General manager of District Inverstment & Development - the major investor in the project - stated: “The original vision and final outcome of O14 are a testament to bold design language combined with breathtaking execution. Working closely with DCC and witnessing first-hand their flawless attention to detail, has reinforced our belief that their uncompromising principles of quality were essential for the complexities of this project”.
Commenting on behalf of Dubai Contracting Company, CEO Abdallah Yabroudi affirmed: “Construction of O14 has tested the boundary of possibilities in modern architecture, and it is with great pride that DCC has once again earned its rightful place among the region’s leading contracting companies by delivering a world class development to which there is no design precedent.”
Buyers and tenants have commenced fit-out activities and are expected to begin occupying the tower in April, 2010.
